Homeschooling is a legal viable alternative to public school education, but it is also a major responsibility. Parents who make the decision to homeschool their children need to keep in mind that legally they must meet certain curriculum requirements and provide proof that they have done so. It’s important to check with the State Board of Education to make sure you are meeting all criteria and find out what needs to be done if you decide to reenroll your child in a public school. Many times, children have to pass a battery of tests in order to be readmitted. Possibly the best way to keep on track with your child’s education at home is to set up an office where you can both teach the lessons and keep records organized.
School Space
Try to choose a room to use as your school office. If it’s in the kitchen or the living room, it’s too easy to become distracted with other things. If you can’t have a separate room, then purchase some partition screens to block off an area of a room. By moving to an official area, both you and your child are more likely to work on the task at hand.
Set up a school schedule and stick to it. Working at home makes following a schedule more difficult. Instead of concentrating on the lesson, it’s easy to start multitasking. We sometimes try to teach a lesson while cooking a meal. That may have worked when helping with homework, but teaching requires much more focus from the teacher as well as the student.
Furniture
Your school space should be equipped with the tools you need to ensure learning. It’s a good idea to include desks for both the teacher and the students involved. If this is impossible because of space restrictions, then furnish the room with a desk for the teacher and a table for the children to share. Having sufficient work surfaces is a must, and including a desk for yourself will help you with planning as well as organization.
We have a large inventory of desks and tables from which to choose. You can easily find the size and style you need for the amount of space you have. Also, if partition screens are necessary, we have a variety from which to choose.
Accessories
We have the tools you need to present excellent lessons. Browse through our selection of chalkboards, display boards, and flip charts to find the presentation materials needed for your home school. These tools will not only make your instruction easier to understand but will aid you in making the lesson more interesting.
Organisation
Record keeping is a requirement for homeschooling. Overtime records can become strewn about the home if an organizational system is not created. We have a wonderful selection of file cabinets, cupboards, and bookcases that will enable you to keep your records organized and easily assessable. People who choose homeschooling have a legal obligation to keep records, so make sure you have what you need to meet those obligations.
