Increasing Productivity with Office Furniture Selections

Productivity is an important issue in any work environment, whether at home or the office.   Money is lost if workers are tired, in pain, or frustrated because of an unhealthy work environment.  When selecting office furniture, think about using a holistic approach and consider buying items that will provide comfort as well as organization.   Creating a healthy work environment that is also organized is sure to increase productivity.

Type of Chair

Sometimes it is necessary for a person to sit in a chair for long periods of time.  If that is the case, then the comfort of the chair is extremely important.  Make sure that the chair is adjustable so a worker can choose a setting appropriate for his height.   Workers sitting in chairs that force them to stretch to reach items they need may experience tremendous neck, arm, and back stress.

Also, consider getting a chair with proper lumbar support in order to decrease spinal stress.   Chronic back pain and even injury can result from using chairs that don’t provide adequate back support.

Even thinking about whether to have arms on the chair is an important part of creating a healthy, productive office.  You want to buy a chair that allows the person to do his job easily.  If the arms of a chair, for instance, will get in the way of someone trying to use a computer, then certainly that chair will increase a workers stress and frustration, which in turn will decrease productivity.

Should the chair swivel or roll?  When making this decision, consider the entire work area and the task at hand.

Again, think holistically.  You want to increase productivity by creating an efficient, healthy work space. Browse through our inventory to select the chair that fits your needs.  There is a large variety available.

Type of Desk

When choosing a desk, think about your work area.  Make sure you choose a desk to fit properly into your work space.  It’s important that a worker have easy access to his desk.   No one wants to squeeze into his workspace.  If space is a problem, then consider using a corner desk or a radial desk.   Either type will help you create an organized work area in a small amount of space.

Make sure that the desk surface area is adequate for the type of work being done.  If, for example, you need to place a computer on the desk, make sure that there is room for all the accessories and still allow the worker to see the computer screen without causing eye strain.  Also, will the printer for this computer be easily assessable.   In this case, a radial desk with a swivel chair may be the answer for you.

We have a large selection of desks that will provide the kind of work space you need and want.

Expense Involved

Looking for the exact furniture you need to provide a safe, convenient work environment will pay off in the long run.  Workers who suffer fewer aches and pains will surely work more productively.   Still, if it’s difficult to find what you want in an affordable price range, check out our used furniture selection.   You will find an excellent variety of quality used furniture at affordable prices.

Good points on ergonomics for the workspace. I went out and bought my own lumbar support cushion - the chairs my former employers provided always seemed to hit me in the wrong place in the lower back.

One thing management should take into account is the average height of their workers. If they buy a bunch of chairs that are designed for people who are 6 feet tall, their employees are going to find this uncomfortable. Of course, fully adjustable task chairs are now within the price range of many companies. That makes it a lot easier to keep everyone happy.
